While I never put Abigail in her car sear FOR a nap in the home...if we drove somewhere and she was asleep, I always let her go until she awoke...until she was old enough to be a regular crib napper.

I was more concerned about her being able to stretch out and not get too warm...but this is the first I've heard of oxygen levels for infants.

Finally...the connection is being made! There are times induction is necessary as a medical intervention...and should be reserved for those rare occasions...but has it turned into something else and more dangerous? Awesome wake up call.

Yesterday, my youngest daughter, Halle who is just 4 years old, was rushed to the ER by her father for being severely lethargic and incoherent in her classroom. He was called to her school by the school secretary who said that she was 'VERY VERY SICK'! He told me that when he arrived at her classroom, Halle was barely sitting in the chair. She couldn't hold her own head up and when he looked into her eyes, she couldn't focus them. He immediately scooped her up and rushed her to the closest ER, and then called me. When he got there, they ran blood test after blood test and did x-rays, every test imaginable. Her white blood cell count was normal; nothing was out of the ordinary. When I arrived at the ER, the doctor there told us that he had done everything that he could do so he was transferring her to Saint Francis Hospital for further tests.

Right as we were leaving in the ambulance, her teacher arrived at the ER and told us that after questioning Halle’s classmates, she had found out that our little girl had licked liquid hand sanitizer off of her hands!!!

Hand sanitizer, of all things. But it makes sense. These days they have all kinds of different scents and flavors and when you have a curious child, they are going to put all kinds of things into their mouths.

When we arrived at the Saint Francis' Hospital ER, we told the ER Doctor there to check her blood alcohol level, and yes we did get weird looks, but they did it. The results showed her blood alcohol level was 85% --six hours after we first took her... There's no telling what it would have been if we would have requested it at the first ER. Since then, her school and a few surrounding schools have taken the liquid hand sanitizers out of all the lower grade classes, but what's to stop middle and high school students from ingesting this stuff?

After doing research on the Internet, we found out that it only takes about 3 squirts of the stuff ingested to be fatal to a toddler. For her blood alcohol level to be so high, it would be like someone her size drinking 120 proof liquor.

Is it just me...or does it concern anyone else when reading this quote taken from MSNBC's above article:

Asked if there will be swine flu vaccines available without the preservative Thimerosal, Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, said yes.

Fauci said there is no evidence that Thimerosal poses any medical hazard, but because some people are concerned about it a form of the vaccine without it will be available.

We know the use of Thimerosal (a preservative containing 49.6% mercury in weight) in vaccines has sent up a lot of red flags to parents who are now requesting they receive doses without Thimerosal, possibly linked to autism and other neurological disorders. So here is the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease stating he does not think it's a medical hazard. I personally know many parents and fellow teachers I worked with who will beg to differ. This goes to show that Thimerosal continues to be an ingredient in vaccines and that parents can't take anything for granted. Only some are made without and normally given upon request! Don't assume...always ask! Isn't it ironic that as a parent...we tend to read all the ingredients and labels for what we put on our children and in them..but when receiving a vaccine...how many are given the chance to read the labels it came in? Do we know all the ingredients? Preservatives etc? It's like when we buy apple juice off the shelf. We know full well a lot of drinks out there contain a lot more than apples.
