Nuby Recall:
Monday, July 27, 2009 at 8:32PM
My husband emailed me from work on Monday to warn me that Nuby has recalled some of their teething ring products with gel inside. Sure enough, I went to the website and one of Abigail’s favorite teething rings was posted. Niiiiice! Just when you think you covered your bases and the package reads the gel is non-toxic, how can you be so sure? It just goes to show how the market is run. Unfortunately, another reminder that you can’t take things for granted. Sure, she has no teeth yet. But here is what the warning statement reads take from www.totalrecallinfo.com :
Health Canada requires that infant teether fillings must not contain any living micro-organisms. Testing by Health Canada of these 3 teether products has revealed that the liquid filling of the teether is contaminated with the bacteria Bacillus licheniformis (in the case of the Playgro teether) or Bacillus cereus (in the case of the Nuby teethers). These bacteria generally do not cause illness. However, the bacteria can affect children with weakened immune systems, causing stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea, if the teether is punctured and the liquid from the teether is ingested.

Yes, kids will get germs, colds, etc. I can’t prevent it all. But sometimes it feels like if we are not looking out for them...who is? Certainly not the mass media marketing. Things are made cheap, easy, and out-sourced from the country. When it comes to products for my little one, I do my best to see that it comes from the states where I would hope there would be more precautions in the manufacturing...one can ONLY hope..and as always do your research.

Thanks for the Nubby info! I checked and Alex's was recalled too. The funny thing is that on the package it says "nontoxic purICE Gel"... hilarious.
Right? Now I'm questioning her other chew toys that have that same gel look to them.
