Breast Milk…the secret cure-all??
Monday, July 20, 2009 at 9:47PM Okay, so I may not know all cures that breast milk provides (although I've heard it's a lot) and haven’t tried many, except ONE in particular that I was thrilled with! When Abigail was little, well younger than she is now, I noticed her one eye seemed to get what I called “eye boogies”. No other way to put it. It especially seemed heavier when she first awoke from a nap or in the morning. At one point, I questioned if she had an allergy. I asked the pediatrician and he suggested saline solution!? What?? He said it was most likely a blocked tear-duct, pretty common. I went and bought the purest form...though is there really such a thing? I tested it in my eye first...no trouble...and then used it to lightly flush her eye maybe every other day for over a week stretch at most. It didn’t seem to work. Someone suggested warm eye compresses. That didn’t go over well. She is fine enough with a face wash-down, but keeping a wet rag covering one eye isn’t an easy task. When I asked my midwife, she nonchalantly suggested breast milk. That sounded so odd to me, but worth a try. The day after I applied a few drops, it wasn’t until the evening hours that I realized there hadn't been any crusting. I hadn’t even thought about it and took for granted her eyes were crystal clear. I applied it again a day or so later to be safe...and she has had no build up since!
Was it coincidence? I could not be sure. However, for what it’s worth, during one of our late afternoon walks, I ran into someone whose son, the same age as my daughter, had the same issue. I went a little out of my comfort zone and suggested the breast milk. She actually seemed genuinely appreciative that I passed along the tip. Tonight I ran into her again, and she said it’s been gone since. She too wasn’t sure if it was by chance, I now doubt it. =) Again, another home remedy that is both inexpensive AND pure! Why did I never heard about this sooner?

What a great idea. My daughter had the same thing and I was so worried it was pink eye or something like that. I called the doctor in a panic and they said it was a blocked tear duct. I just used a warm compress and it went away in a day or so. Next time I will be using breast milk. I actually used breast milk when she had a little pimple and a scratch from her nails and they healed over night.
Breast milk is liquid GOLD.
I hadn't tried it on her scratches yet...but good idea! I did hear it helps diaper rash..which I may try next time..being that I just tossed all my Desitin..and am down to my all natural ones I had gotten as gifts.
